The Falls Creek Skiing & Snowboarding is the best that Victoria and possibly Australia has to offer. Centrally located in the heart of the Victorian High Country, Falls Creek is only a short drive from Melbourne. Besides being Victoria’s largest mountain, the resort’s location means that Falls Creek also enjoys the best snowfalls of all the Victorian Resorts.
During the winter months, Falls Creek has a strong family focus, its this reason (among many others) that has helped it become one of the best snow locations in Victoria Ski Fields. As well as specialising in Terrain parks and Pipes, the resort offers loads of activities for the young and the young at heart including, snowtubing, snowman building competitions, snowshoe shuffle, tobogganing, helicopter flights, kiteboarding, scenic chair rides, night skiing and so much more. For the experienced skiers, you will enjoy endless slopes ranging in different skill levels with the longest run reaching a staggering 3 km long. You will also be able to enjoy over 450 hectares of ski terrain and you will never be waiting long at the bottom to get onto a chair lift as they have the capacity to do 25,000 per hour. And you will also be able to check out the spectacular weekly night show which is held every Thursday night that includes fireworks, precision skiing, snowmobile driving and Pete the Snow Dragon.
For the kids, the Falls Creek Snowsports School provides an exciting children’s centre at the Cloud 9 complex at the top of the Falls Express Chairlift. This facility provides an innovative theme park-style centre. They can also take part in junior workshops, the snow club for kids as well as being able to be fitted out completely when it comes to hiring all of their snow gear.
Falls Creek also have, like many of the other Ski Resorts in either New South Wales or Victoria, a snow making machine which is energy efficient and quiet. So when Mother Nature isn’t being all that kind, you will still be guaranteed to have a perfect snow holiday.
To get to Falls Creek you can travel by coach, air or self-drive. All the major bus lines will travel to falls creek which you can arrange a seat on, or if you would rather make the travel time, to and from, really quick than from any of the major cities in Australia just book a flight to Melbourne or Albury and from you can arrange a seat on one of the many coach services available. But if you are more interested in seeing the sights along the way then hire a car, if you don’t already have one, and navigate your way through the scenic drive of the Victorian hills to Falls Creek which is 356 km from Melbourne and approximately an eight-hour drive from Sydney. And believe it or not the Victorian Alpine is the closest ski resort to Brisbane for anyone travelling from Queensland.
